At 30 weeks pregnant stage, you are in the middle of your third trimester or in the 8th month of your pregnancy. So you
have only 9 or 10 more weeks to go before the delivery or child birth. As you are in the final stages of pregnancy, you will become very restless and start feeling that the wait seems endless. This is the time when you must relax and rest. Find some time with your partner or spouse and plan and discuss the forthcoming events of delivery, childbirth and baby care. Try finishing projects which you’ve been planning since long. After the baby comes, you will be very busy with the baby, feeding the baby, changing diapers and nappies and so on. You have gained lot of weight and are gaining much more at the rate of about 1 pound per week. You may start feeling that you are becoming slow and clumsy. At 30 weeks pregnant stage you might be feeling quite tired and exhausted, so rest and relaxation are of great importance now.
At 30 weeks pregnant stage, the baby’s approximate weight is about 1.5 kg or 3 pounds and approximate length from head to toe is about 14 to 17 inches or 36 to 38 cms. The baby becomes quite sensitive to the surroundings and is aware of the happenings around. The baby starts having definite sleep and waking patterns and the expectant mother is able to identify these. The baby’s and mothers sleep cycles need not necessarily match. The baby has become so big by now, that it is occupying nearly the entire uterine cavity. The baby moves and plays quite vigorously now. When the baby is not moving, it will generally be in a sitting position with the head in upward direction. Now is the time, when the baby starts positioning itself for exit by easing and resting the head on mother’s pelvic bones.
The baby’s brain is developing very fast during this period. The brain trains the eyes for opening and lungs for breathing. The baby is able to see the happenings in the uterus and can differentiate light and darkness and is capable of tracking a light source. The baby reacts to outer lights. The baby has fully grown eyelashes and eyebrows at this stage. The baby is adding on fat and gaining weight. The baby’s lengthwise growth may slow down now. Baby has fully developed and functional digestive tract and lungs during the 30 weeks pregnant stage.
Well, yes, the clumsiness has arrived. I managed to break 2 large dishes at once during the past few weeks along with a nice china bowl last night. The one casserole dish was full of scalloped potatoes and the other was a really nice glass muffin container we got for our wedding. It took forever to clean up and I got shards of glass in my feet a few times afterwards. I am not sure why dropping things is a sign of advanced pregnancy but now I am seeing why people give so many glass kitchen items to newlyweds. Because YOU WILL BREAK most of them by the time you reach your 10th wedding anniversary. Apparently you need the three extra replacements you received simultaneously. Pregnancy is good at reminding one of that fact. I wonder how much china and glass dishes we will have left after the next pregnancy. Anyways Andrew no longer fusses when he hears the crash bang boom in the kitchen. He goes on with his job and keeps his head out of the kitchen-he doesn’t need to ask “What on earth was THAT?”, he already knows. It is as simple as that.
The baking went well last night. The lemon cheesecake turned out okay. I improvised as I didn’t have al the ingredients for it. These muffins/bread turned out really well. Andrew was proud I didn’t change the recipe at all other than using Spelt flour and adding chocolate chips. Here’s the recipe. These are really good. I quadrupled the recipe so it made 3 large loaves of bread and 12 muffins. My freezer is happy and there is enough left over for Church and to take to a friend. Another strange thing about pregnancy (I will be glad to have this one over) is that I hate the smell of cooking food. Whether it is crock pot chicken or baking bread. The smells I used to enjoy during the day now make me nauseous. It makes it less enjoyable to cook in that sense. Before it was so nice when the house smelled like the soup you were making but now it is unappetizing. Oh and on smells I love the smell of lavender though just as I did pre-pregnancy and I was putting some lavender essential oil on in the bathroom last night when Andrew stepped in and said “What is that stink?!” It was hilarious. I was like “Your wife!” He felt bad after that. Although I thought it was hilarious. He didn’t mind the smell as long as it had dissipated a bit. My favorite thing to do with lavender oil is put it in a bath. I think I may bring it along to the birth center as it is so relaxing. My only fear is that I may from then on associate it with my birth and not want to use it again. I tend to associate smells and sound with events strongly. There are certain songs on the radio that if they play make me nauseous just like I felt in the first trimester. Simply because that was a song I heard often during my first trimester. It is amazing the association that our bodies make. I think it is some kind of danger signal or something to warn us. It will make me more careful what I eat, smell and listen to the next time I have morning sickness. Knowing I may not like those things for a long time afterwards.
Today taking up the advice of the above article I am hoping to start a project embroidering and stitching along the edges of some birdseye flat diapers. They aren’t traditional prefolds but look like large flat squares of pure white cotton. They are thin and I am meaning to use these as burp rags and such for the baby. I also want to have some on hand for baby gifts. That is if they look decent enough to give to some one. If not our baby will have to suffer through using the odd ones. I have been meaning to toy around with my sewing machine and learn to embroider for a while. If I get too stuck I will probably call in for back up from my mother and sisters in law who are quite good at both. We shall see. I need to go to Hiawatha to get embroidery thread and a hoop though today. So that is on my schedule after I get a few more things done here.
Edit: Here’s how the first 2 turned out:

I ended up hand stitching these and it was a fun little afternoon project. Here’s a picture of Tyler just cause he is cute and I don’t have cute pictures of Feisty to post. So for another 10 weeks everyone’s going to have to bear with the pictures of Ty.

He likes to balance his bone on his paw.
have only 9 or 10 more weeks to go before the delivery or child birth. As you are in the final
Wow, for someone who says she feels clumsy and lethargic you seem to get a ton done.
hey, thanks for dropping by my blog. Don’t know i got some readers out there..hee =) So you are in your 30th weeks eh? Congrats! As for me, yup..it’s basically playing the waiting game now. So it’s good luck to both of us then! :)
p/s: mind if i link you? :)
Rabenstrange, well I took a total of 2 naps yesterday and so I think that contributed a lot to my productivity in the evening–although not so much to my productivity during the day. Thanks though! It did feel good getting the baking done!
Darwisya, you are quite welcome to link and I do hope your baby comes soon for you. Very exciting! Can’t wait to hear the news :)
Hi! I found your blog on the wordpress tag surfer… I’m a new mom (baby is 7 weeks old). When I was pregnant, I made some burp cloths from the flat-fold diapers. Here are some things I learned, that might make your project more successful:
They have to be prewashed, before stitching anything on, becaust they shrink like crazy. I’d probably wash them more than once before sewing anything on them.
They work better as burp cloths if you double them up; I folded mine in half and stitched the outsides together.
Blessings with the new baby!
30 weeks- yahoo! You need to post weekly pics of your growing belly now. :) Hand stitching is so much fun- here is a good how-to book (Rebekah sells a series called “Grandmother’s Hope Chest” that teaches hand sewing- actually her whole site is GREAT!): http://www.hopechestlegacy.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=78_114_225&products_id=391
I break so many glasses during pregnancies that we always have to buy a new set. 5 sets of glasses over 8 years of marriage- phew! (I need new dishes b/c I’ve broken so many but I’m making due till I can buy the ones I really want… they’re expensive) Breaking dishes & eating LOTS of meat- those are tell-all signs that I’m pregnant! :)
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I haven’t heard of Armor Thyroid… I will have to check it out! If it helps with the exhaustion, it would definitely be something to try, as the Synthroid has never really helped me much in that area. I have been on Synthroid for about 3 years, but my TSH levels have gone crazy since I became pregnant. I have already had to increase from 88mcg to 125 and I am just 12 weeks! Anyways, thanks again for your comment- it is encouraging to know I am not alone with this thyroid thing=)
Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly. I will be checking back in to see how things are going! Oh, and the diapers are a cute idea!
